The Clearwater is cooling and clearing as flows settle, opening a favorable window for fall steelhead. Consider heavier lines and attractors in black, purple, and orange as water clears.

Lower water concentrates fish in deeper pockets and cover areas on the Lochsa. Fish smaller mayflies, caddis, nymphs, and small streamers with careful presentation.

The Saint Joe is low and stable with clear water. Fish concentrated in deeper pools and shaded banks; use dry-dropper rigs and nymphs with a careful approach.

Lower flows concentrate fish in deeper pockets while making the river easier to cover. Dry-dropper rigs excel, and blue-wing olives are gaining importance as fall settles in.

Clear water and moderate flows have the South Fork concentrating fish along cutbanks and seams, with Mahogany Duns and Blue Wing Olives driving the midday bite.

Silver Creek is productive in early fall with stable low flows and prime water temps. Expect Baetis, Mahogany Duns, October Caddis, and Trico, though Tricos have been spotty.

Clearwater flows have dropped sharply to 3,270 cfs, opening swing water opportunities and concentrating steelhead in lower volumes at a prime 59-degree temperature.
