Blue winged olives and midges are primary hatches in the morning. October Caddis have started to make appearance, mostly hatching towards last hour of day. Crawdads are still out there.
Conditions
Clear water and normal flows are holding steady on the Truckee right now. The Glenshire to stateline stretch offers the most productive water with higher flows in that zone. As of October 29, flows were running 369 CFS at the Nixon gauge, stable and in the prime temperature zone at 51 degrees. Target blue winged olives and midges in the mornings, then switch to October Caddis patterns in the final hour of daylight. Crawdads are present, so consider dead drift crayfish and sculpins when other tactics slow down. Mornings and evenings are most productive, but bites are available throughout the day.

Techniques
- In Glenshire area with lower water, dry fly fishing is best method. In sections with higher flows, nymphing during morning hours is most productive. Fish nymphing with stoneflies and blue winged olives or midges as dropper.
- Fish large October Caddis dry size 6 through 8. Use enough weight to get flies down into deeper parts of runs to find fish staging in broken water and heavy riffles.
- With stormy weather and off color water or cloudy conditions, there may be opportunities to fish for bigger fish using streamers.
