Hecuba or great red quill #10-12, tannish/brown with large wing, very sporadic
Conditions
September is firing on the Clark Fork, especially the lower drainage where Hecuba mayflies (great red quillsplus sporadic but highly effective when they appear. These tannish-brown flies with large wings add a bonus target to the standard autumn menu. Work mahogany duns in 14-16, fall BWOs in 18-22, and October caddis in 6-10, backed by smaller caddis throughout. Consider Jakes hatchbacks, thorax duns, cripple emergers, and small streamers in tan, brown, and olive to match the hatch.
