Big Lost River

The Big Lost will be running low and clear through the first week of September, with flows expected to remain in the low range. Tricos and Baetis will be the staple hatches as the day warms, mixed with sporadic small caddis activity. Giant crane flies are worth trying skittered across the surface, and nymphing small Baetis and midge patterns stays productive even when afternoon bug activity slows. Fishing will be best from midday into late afternoon when the water warms enough to trigger activity, though cooler temperatures may trigger a Hecuba hatch as well.
