Conditions

Crystal-clear water and glassy conditions make Silver Creek's trout highly selective in early September. As of September 10, flows were stable at 86 cfs with water temperature at 61°F, classic late-summer spring-creek conditions. Expect heavy trico and midge spinner falls early morning (7–10 AM), followed by moderate Blue-Winged Olive activity mid-morning through early afternoon. Terrestrial ants work well around midday, and watch for a late-afternoon feeding bump as barometric pressure drops. Approach carefully from downstream on your knees with a 12–14 foot leader tapered to 6X or 7X, targeting individual risers with upstream casts 18–24 inches above their noses.

Techniques

  • Target individual risers in slow current lanes with emergers and parachute dries on 6X or 7X during 11 AM - 2 PM BWO and PMD hatch
  • Use 12-14 foot leader tapered to 6X or 7X for ultra-selective fish in clear water
