Conditions

The Saint Joe is running on the lower side at 365 cfs as of September 11, with stable conditions after recent rain pushed flows higher and then dropped them back down. Fish deeper riffles, shaded banks, pocket water, and well-defined current seams where trout concentrate in lower water. Blue-winged olives, mahogany mayflies, and October caddis nymphs are active, with small nymphs and Pat's rubber legs as your primary patterns. Orange Stimulators and sculpins work well as backups in faster water. As the season transitions into cooler September weather, subsurface work becomes increasingly productive.

Techniques

  • Concentrate on areas with extra depth: deeper riffles, shaded banks, pocket water and well-defined current seams more productive than shallow water
  • Terrestrials still an option, but cooler September weather opens door for more mayfly, caddis and subsurface fishing
