The Kootenai is firing on all cylinders this late summer, with big foam attractors and nymphs 2–3 feet below the surface producing consistent results. As of August 11, flows held steady at 8,230 CFS near Porthill with water temps at 59°F—prime conditions for rainbows, cutthroats, bull trout, and occasional browns averaging 12–16 inches. Grasshoppers and terrestrials are abundant and effective, while evening caddis emerge offer a reliable hatch window to target.
