Conditions

Gin-clear water and low flows have made fish extremely wary on the Henrys Fork. As of October 12, the river is running 658 cfs with a falling trend. Blue-Winged Olives dominate the daytime hatch from 10 AM to 2 PM in sizes 20-22, with moderate midge activity 9 AM to 12 PM. An incoming storm system with dropping barometric pressure should trigger heavier Baetis activity through midday and temporarily cloud the water. Stealth and precision will be your best tools: wade slowly, stay low, and get within 20-30 feet before making your first cast count.
