Conditions
Low, clear water will make the Big Lost highly accessible through early September, but plan your day carefully—morning fishing is prime while afternoon action drops off sharply. Deeper greenish runs hold the best fish; stealth and mobility are essential. Tricos and small Baetis emerge in midmorning, with craneflies, caddis, hoppers, and flying ants all worth having in your rotation. Cooler mornings now allow later starts, so you can hunt the productive window without an early alarm.

- To find fish, focus on the deeper, greenish runs and be prepared to cover a lot of ground
- It is much cooler in the mornings so no need to start early; give the trout and bugs a chance to warm up
