Burbot are native to Idaho’s Kootenai system and are the only member of their family that lives entirely in freshwater. This eel-like fish favors deep lakes and large rivers, holds tight to the bottom, and is most active at dusk and night.
Burbot eat fish, and smaller ones also take insect larvae, crayfish, mollusks, and other bottom-dwelling prey.
Burbot are native in Idaho and ranked S1 in the state; always check current Idaho seasons and limits for the Kootenai River before targeting or keeping fish.
