Blue-winged Olive second hatch occurs from first of September and can last into first of December
Conditions
Silver Creek is a classic spring creek that demands precision and patience. Clear water and dense aquatic vegetation create drag-free drift challenges, while trout here have seen countless patterns from anglers worldwide and respond only to careful presentations. As of September 20, flows were running 71 cfs at Sportsman Access with water temperature at 58 degrees, creating ideal conditions for selective feeders. The upper preserve section holds smaller rainbows in faster current; larger trout inhabit the deeper, slower pools downstream. Blue-winged Olives, scuds, and midge imitations are reliable choices, but consider fine tippets and longer drifts to fool leader-shy fish.

Techniques
- Fish tandem Midge rig under small strike indicator with midge larva as bottom fly and midge pupa as top fly
- Fish adult midge only when trout feeding on surface observed
- Scuds available year-round and trout eat them year-round
- Brown Sculpin and White Belly Sculpin are great flies to use in the fall
- Find a trout and fish to it rather than blind cast; sneaking and stalking trout is key to success
- Grasshoppers, ants, and beetles are plentiful and should have imitations during July, August and September
- Trout can be taken on streamers mostly during low light conditions: early mornings, late afternoons, heavily overcast skies
- Aquatic worms are working
- Sight fish around vegetation and use correct weight on fly to avoid hanging up
