Conditions

The Saint Joe is one of your better bets for summer dry-fly water in a warming region. As of August 26, flows were stable and lean at 358 cfs—low enough to concentrate trout into predictable feeding lanes but cool enough to keep fish active through the day. Caddis are strong in the afternoons through dark, with Yellow Sallies also active and terrestrial bugs drawing strikes as the season progresses. Overcast skies and light winds favor surface presentations.

Techniques

  • Yellow Sallies and caddis remain important, terrestrial activity building, large Chubby Chernobyls with dropper underneath around banks, structure, and broken water
