Conditions
The Lochsa is clearing nicely at fall flows, with water dropping and stabilizing. Trout are holding in deeper pockets, structure, and seams where they can hold with less energy expenditure. Small mayflies and caddis are emerging on top, but nymphs and small streamers will draw more consistent takes. Fish tight to cover and move slowly; stealth pays dividends here.
Gauges
Techniques
- Deeper pockets, pool heads, seams and water around larger rocks are going to hold more fish than the shallow flats
- There are still opportunities for small mayflies and caddis on top, but nymphs and small streamers are more consistent
