Conditions
Fall cooling is waking up the trout, and fish are responding to the weather shift. As of September 4, flows were running 323 cfs at Cataldo—still below seasonal normal but rising—with low water pushing trout into slack water and tight holding spots along soft banks and edges. Blue wing olives (#20–22), mahogany duns, and October caddis are active, making this a good time for technical casting with fine tippet and small flies like parasitic wasps and beetles. Light drizzle and overcast skies should keep fish on the feed through early evening.
