Conditions

Flows are running around 400 cfs at Ramsdell, slightly up from early October and now stable. As temperatures cool, fish are holding in slower water along shaded banks and in deeper pools. Blue-wing olives show most activity during warmer afternoon hours, but expect a mixed fall hatch with mahogany, caddis, and emergers drawing selective feeding. Fish a dry-dropper rig with nymphs in likely structure, or try small emerger patterns and soft hackles in slower glides where trout are clustering.

Techniques

  • Focus on deeper pools, shaded banks, seams and areas with good structure
  • Dry-dropper rigs can still work well, especially later in the day, but nymphing should become more consistent as fall settles in
