Conditions

At 415 cfs as of September 25, the Lochsa is running fairly typical lower September water. Focus on pocket water, deeper riffles, shaded banks and defined seams where fish hold during lower flows. Terrestrials still work during warmer afternoon hours, but nymphs and small streamers are becoming the better call as temperatures cool into fall. Conditions remain stable with partly cloudy skies and light winds.

Gauges

Techniques

  • Concentrate on pocket water, deeper riffles, shaded banks and defined seams. Dry-dropper rigs still good; lean more heavily on nymphs and smaller streamers as temperatures cool.
