Recent flows have pushed the Lochsa into better shape, opening riffle corners, short buckets, soft edges, and run heads that were marginal during summer lows. As of September 6, flows were running 504 cfs at Lowell and trending upward. Terrestrial patterns, ants and beetles, remain effective along wooded banks, and small attractor dries continue to produce. Clear skies and moderate temperatures should make for good mid-day fishing.

- Start looking at water that may have been too shallow last week. Riffle corners, short buckets behind boulders, soft edges and heads of runs should all be back in play.
- If we continue getting cloudy skies, this would be a good week to carry a few small streamers. The combination of slightly higher flows and darker weather can get fish moving.
- Terrestrials are still worth fishing, especially ants and beetles along wooded banks. A smaller attractor dry can also cover plenty of water.
