Conditions

The Lochsa is rising from very low late-summer levels into good shape. As of September 4, flows sat at 600 cfs near Lowell, bringing riffle corners, boulder pockets, soft edges, and run heads back into play. Terrestrial patterns and small attractor drys work the wooded banks effectively, and smaller streamers cover water well. Overcast skies and mild temperatures should improve your odds on the water.

Gauges

Techniques

  • Start looking at water that may have been too shallow last week: riffle corners, short buckets behind boulders, soft edges and the heads of runs
  • Terrestrials are still worth fishing, especially ants and beetles along wooded banks
