On part 2 of our special “On The Water” episodes of the Barbless Fly Fishing Podcast, Nick Hanna talks with 3rd generation outfitter Jeff Helfrich of Tight Lines in the Pacific Northwest. Prepare to relax as you listen to part of a day on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, which is part of the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness. Jeff is an experienced guide in Oregon and Idaho. Hear about the behavior of the Salmonids and other species in the area and how they have changed based on his experience. Jeff talks about the impacts various dams have had on the river’s water temperature, and therefore the fishery. The 104 miles of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River is just one little fork of the mighty Columbia river basin. The Middle Fork is a great place to go fishing, with August 1st being opening day for catch and release. Middle fork is a salmon and steelhead sanctuary.
