Conditions

Fall salmon season runs through December 31, with the Spit Area (within 100 yards of the sand spit channel at mouth) closing when 487 adult Chinook are harvested downstream of the US 101 bridge. As of October 30, flows were running 2,630 cfs with water at 55 degrees and very clear conditions, which calls for early and late fishing sessions with lighter tippet and longer leaders. Excellent fishing continues in the estuary with big schools of kings pushing in and out with tides. Steelhead action upriver has been solid, typically best at first light. Consider fishing two hours before high tide through about an hour after for the best bite.
