San Diego jam knot
Line to fly in 0.75 min.

Also called San Diego jam, SD jam

A fast, fixed fly or hook knot where the tag wraps back over the doubled line and locks through two loops. Saltwater anglers use it to tie flies and jigs to fluorocarbon, mono or braid when they want a quick, compact knot snug to the eye.

How to tie it

  1. Step 1: Pass the tag through the hook eye, pull out plenty of line, and pinch the fly against your palm with the tag doubled back beside the standing line.

  2. Step 2: Lay the tag over your index finger to hold a loop open, then wrap it seven times around both strands, working down toward the eye.

  3. Step 3: Pass the tag between the two strands just above the eye, below the last wrap.

  4. Step 4: Bring the tag up through the loop held open by your index finger, then slip your finger out.

  5. Step 5: Wet the knot, pull the tag snug, then pull the standing line to slide the knot down tight against the eye and trim the tag close.
