How to tie it
Step 1: Push a needle a little thicker than the leader butt into the center of the fly line's tip, then out its side about 1/8 inch back. Leave it a minute to stretch the hole, then pull it out.
Step 2: Thread the leader butt into the hole in the side so it comes out of the fly line's tip, and pull it through until about eight inches stick out of the side.
Step 3: Lay a small tube or nail along the fly line and wind the leader's end five times around the fly line, the tube and itself, working toward the tip.
Step 4: Pass the end back under the wraps through the tube, the opposite way to the wraps, and slide the tube out.
Step 5: Work the slack out, slide the wraps down to the exit hole, pull hard to seat them, and trim the tag close.
