Improved Homer Rhode loop knot
Line to fly in 1.25 min.
Also called Improved Homer Rhode loop, improved Homer Rhode, improved Homer Rhodes loop
A loop knot at the fly where a figure-eight stopper and an overhand on the standing part jam together, so the fly swings free on a fixed loop. Saltwater fly anglers tie it in heavy mono or fluorocarbon shock tippet for tarpon and other big fish.

How to tie it
Step 1: Tie a double overhand knot about 4" from the end of the tippet, then pass the tag through the hook eye.
Step 2: Ease the double overhand down into a loose figure-eight without closing it.
Step 3: Pass the tag through the figure-eight opening nearest the fly, entering on the same side as the line running to the fly, then through the second opening so it exits on the same side as the standing tippet.
Step 4: Pull the fly and the standing tippet until the figure-eight slides down and seats against the hook eye.
Step 5: Tie an overhand knot with the tag around the standing tippet, setting the gap to the first knot to the loop size you want.
Step 6: Pull the fly against the standing tippet until the two knots jam together and form the loop, then trim the tag.
