A 12.5-foot tarpon leader for an 11-12 wt. It runs 72 inches of 60 lb mono, 48 inches of 40 lb mono and an 18 inch class tippet of 16 lb, ending in a 12 inch bite tippet of 50 lb fluorocarbon. The heavy butt turns over big tarpon flies, the class tippet sets the breaking strength, and the bite tippet takes the wear of a tarpon's rough jaw.

How to tie it
Step 1: Double about four inches of the thinner line and overlap the doubled end with the heavier line.
Step 2: Wrap the doubled line around the heavier line five times, then bring it back and pass it between the lines where they cross.
Step 3: Wrap the heavier tag around the doubled line five times the opposite way and pass it back through the same opening from the other side.
Step 4: Wet the knot and pull both standing lines steadily until the wraps seat. Trim the tags and the doubled end.
