How to tie it
Step 1: Cut about 10 inches of brightly colored Dacron backing.
Step 2: Lay it alongside the leader where you want the barrel.
Step 3: Fold one end of the backing back to form a loop beside the fly line.
Step 4: Pass that end through the loop and around both the leader and the other strand of backing 5 times.
Step 5: Wet the wraps, then slowly pull both backing ends to close the loop.
Step 6: Work the wraps together into a neat barrel and pull snug.
Step 7: Trim the ends short, or leave an inch or two on one or both ends for a more visible sighter.
