Australian braid
Loop in a line in 3 min.
Also called Australian plait, Aussie plait, Australian braid knot, plait knot
A plaited doubled line that puts a long, strong loop in the end of the main line or class tippet for loop-to-loop connections. Offshore and big-game fly anglers use it as a quicker, slimmer alternative to the Bimini twist.

How to tie it
Step 1: Double back enough line for the loop you want plus about 2 feet of tag, and pinch the point where the tag meets the standing line.
Step 2: Lay the tag over the standing line and pass it between the two strands of the loop so you have three strands to plait.
Step 3: Plait the tag alternately over and under the loop strands, keeping tension on the main line and pinching each plait tight, until the braid is about 1" long for 6 lb line, 2" for 8 to 12 lb, 3" for 16 to 20 lb and longer for heavier line.
Step 4: Fold the remaining tag into a bight, make a few more plaits with it, then pass the end of the loop through that bight.
Step 5: Wet the braid and pull the tag smoothly to draw the bight down tight against the plait, then trim the tag.
