Lanie Galland grew up in north Georgia, where her family fostered a deep connection to the outdoors from an early age, and her father introduced her to fly fishing during childhood. She pursued higher education on the west coast before establishing herself in the Truckee mountains, where she studied the genetics of fisheries and forests. Her professional background includes work as a geneticist and postdoctoral researcher, followed by a period guiding in Oregon, Montana, and Mongolia. After recovering from an injury, she joined the Helfrich River Outfitters team, bringing both scientific expertise and extensive guiding experience to the rivers of Idaho.
