Gary S Thompson discovered his passion for Idaho after a single expedition down the Salmon River, which motivated him to relocate from South Carolina to pursue guiding full-time. He brings extensive experience from years spent leading river trips and expeditions, as well as professional training from his tenure with the National Outdoor Leadership School. His academic background includes graduate work at the University of Idaho focused on developing the McCall Outdoor Science School, where he continues to work today. Following several years with the Payette Lakes Ski Patrol, Gary transitioned his expertise to winter backcountry instruction, where he combines his deep knowledge of outdoor leadership with a genuine enthusiasm for the dynamic blend of people, snow conditions, and scientific learning that defines each course he leads.
