Garrett Helfrich has been immersed in river life since infancy, beginning his first trip on the Upper McKenzie at six weeks old alongside his parents Jonnie and Aaron Helfrich. Growing up in Springfield, Oregon, he developed a passion for fly fishing from his father and became an accomplished outdoorsman and athlete. He obtained his Idaho guides license at just 17 years old and began gaining professional experience as a swamper for his grandfather Dean at age 10. A Criminal Justice graduate from Montana State University Billings (2018), where he also played collegiate baseball as a pitcher, Garrett has guided on the Middle Fork and Rogue rivers for Helfrich River Outfitters since 2019. When not on the water, he pursues his interests in shed antler hunting, golf, and hunting.
