Steelheading is on right now, runs aren't as good as last year but plenty of fish around
Conditions
Steady conditions are holding on the Clearwater with flows running around 3,000 cfs and water temperature at 56 degrees. Clear water and good traditional swing water are in play, making this a solid window for steelheading, though runs are lighter than last year. Small black, purple, and orange patterns are working well, with bigger flies and attractors worth trying early morning or late day. Consider dry lines and smaller skated flies as flows settle into normal range.

Techniques
- A floating or intermediate setup is a good place to start when hitting the shallower runs and tailouts
- If you move into heavier water, switch over to a Skagit setup and add some sink tip
- Smaller black, purple and orange patterns are still solid choices in clear water conditions
- Dry lines and smaller skated flies on or just under surface is better option for steelhead right now, can still run sink tip
- Scandi heads are especially nice right now when you want a clean presentation without getting too deep
