Founded on August 5, 2022, Rising to the Fly was created when Julia Mitchell and Temma Roby decided to convert lightly used fly-fishing gear into opportunities for women anglers. What began as gear donations has grown into a U.S./Canada-based nonprofit whose mission is clear: break down barriers and make fly fishing inclusive and accessible for all women. Rising to the Fly Rising to the Fly serves women across the United States and Canada, shipping gear and providing support to help more women get on the water. Their vision centers on enabling physical and mental wellness through outdoor access, with fly fishing at the core.

Julia has been fly fishing since 1999 when she took a weekend intro class. She is co-founder of Rising to the Fly as well as a member of the California Fly Fisher magazine editorial board and a member of the Program Committee for iFishiBelong.

Temma has been fly fishing for over two years. She is co-founder of Rising to the Fly, is on the iFishiBelong team and the Board of Directors for Diablo Valley Fly Fishing Club.
