Fishing Rock Creek

Rock Creek is a small meadow creek north of Hwy 36, in the North Fork Feather drainage. Three spots reach it. The upper creek runs through a meadow at an abandoned campground, 9.3 mi from Hwy 36. In 1990 it had no facilities and served for rough camping. The water there is small pools and minor riffles, and you can walk it in either direction. Closer to the highway, a road heads north along the creek. In 1990 any vehicle could drive the first 2.3 mi, it took four-wheel drive past that, and the road was washed out at 2.9 mi. Park off the road and walk over: the creek starts out boggy, then forms small pools and riffles as it steepens. The fishing on that stretch is not the best. Just north of Hwy 36, a road on the west side, no place for trailers or RVs in 1990, reaches slow meadow water with wood cover and pockets, and a scenic spot for rough camping. The wood and the pockets in the slow meadow water near the highway, and the small pools in the upper meadow, are where to spend your time. Regulations change and differ by section, so check the current California regulations before you go.
