A short canyon creek along Hwy 89, with whitewater falling into big, deep pools below Indian Falls.
Indian Creek is a canyon stream in the North Fork Feather drainage. Hwy 89 follows it from Indian Falls down to where Spanish Creek comes in near Paxton, the point where the East Branch of the North Fork begins. At Indian Falls, in 1990 a short spur ran out to a flat above the creek. It was too tight for trailers, which were left at a turnout on the highway. An overgrown old road heads downstream from the flat, with side paths out to a bluff, and the scramble down the rocks to the water is not hard. Below the falls the creek drops through two runs of whitewater into big, deep pools, and more pools follow downstream. At the lower end, just above the Spanish Creek confluence, a roadside turnout looks down on two pools joined by a small falls, with pocket water about 0.6 mi upstream. In 1990 most anglers here fished bait and lures. A fly rod works too, from the rocks or by walking the bank downstream from the lower turnout. Regulations change and differ by section, so check the current California regulations before you go.
