A small, brushy Warner Valley creek with pools, small falls, meadow water and lava rock holes.
Hot Springs Creek is a small, brushy creek in Warner Valley, one of the tributaries in the North Fork Feather drainage above Lake Almanor. Warner Valley Rd is the way in. Two spots on the road reach it, a short way apart. At Warner Valley Campground, about 9.8 mi along Warner Valley Rd, the creek is brushy, with many pools and small falls and plenty of room to roam. In 1990 the grade into the campground was steep enough that trailers were not advised, and parking there was for campers only. A little farther on, at 10.1 mi and below Drakesbad, a trailhead with picnic parking opens onto a meadow stretch upstream and holes in lava rock downstream. Any method was fair game here in 1990. A short rod suits the brush and the small pools; save the deeper water for the lava rock holes below the trailhead. Regulations change and differ by section, so check the current California regulations before you go.
